We hope the holidays have provided some smiles and laughter for you and your family. For some hospital patients in the New York area, smiles have come from a group of clowns making their rounds.
Led by Dr. Neal Goldberg, the Compassionate Clown Alley has been providing laughter and smiles to South Nassau Communities Hospital for the past two years. The clowns range in age from 13 up to 22 and get training from Dr. Carolyn Fein-Levy. She does this because, she says, "Whenever the clowns are around, the children are happier. When they are happier, their parents enjoy watching them."
Dr. Goldberg, inspired by the work of Dr. Patch Adams, says the group's mission is to "change people's worlds, create worlds for people that need it, and to help people play."
Says Dr. Carolyn Fein-Levy, "Whenever the clowns are around, the children are happier."
