In these tough times, let's take a moment to remember how one man inspired others to help those less fortunate during the holidays. Back in 1979, a businessman named Larry Stewart started handing out $100 bills during the Christmas season, and became known as the "Secret Santa." Though he passed away in 2007, his work continues through the kindness of others.
This past week, it seems Saint Nick left the frigid North Pole a few days early and warmed some hearts in Arizona. The Secret Santa, a businessman from the area, showed up in low-income areas of Phoenix and gave away a total of $20,000 to needy folks.
This Secret Santa doled out $100 to a grandmother who needed to fill four Christmas stockings. One of Santa's elves handed cash to a family heading to a hospital in Los Angeles, without the means for return tickets. A young family on welfare, with a father who just lost his job, was given $200 while they shopped for Christmas presents.
Said the father, Manuel Quezada, "It's a blessing, an angel come to save us."
